I was working in TV production when my daughter decided to make an unexpected appearance! Unfortunately, my introduction to motherhood wasn’t the easiest thanks to feeding issues & post natal depression. I became completely obsessed with the climate crisis, plastic pollution & the world our daughter was inheriting. Light reading eh?
After some friends ribbed me for taking home a load of rubbish to be recycled/composted (yeah I do that, I’m not alone, am I?), I jokingly responded “you wait, I’ll open a refill shop & that’ll show you!”. It was a flippant comment but it caused hundreds of ideas to keep me up at night, despite my newborn doing a pretty good job of that herself!
The plan was to open a refill shop in May 2020… Say no more! A gorgeous place where you could get high quality produce that just happened to be eco-friendly, effective & single-use plastic free… yeah, Covid didn’t get the memo apparently.
After an incredible amount of support from friends, family & complete strangers I threw the doors open in December 2020 in the old Hart Brewery. `We’ve gone from just a few items of refillable food, cleaning products & toiletries to over 600 products without needless plastic waste & harmful pesticides, plus a lovely selection of local products! It’s awesome how a throwaway (see what I did) comment has led to this wonderful journey.
In July, I was lucky to be joined by the wonderful Alice & we’re planning on launching our click & collect service in our little corner of Nene Court over the summer. It’s not global domination but I like to think that together we’re all making a difference to our corner of Northants.
Covid has proven interesting but from nothing but a desire to do something, anything, I’ve met so many fabulous, passionate people & Food for Thought has developed a wonderful customer base in the 18 months since we opened. We’ve got the best customers in the world & it’s a joy to be part of their weekly shopping trips!
I'm so excited to host workshops at Food for Thought to bring people together to celebrate community, connection & being kinder to ourself as well as the planet!
