Lurgan Townscape Heritage Scheme

Townscape Heritage (TH) is a grant-giving scheme, developed by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, to help communities regenerate the historic built environment of conservation areas in need of investment across the United Kingdom. The TH scheme does this by supporting partnerships of local, regional and national interests that aim to regenerate economically disadvantaged historic areas for the benefit of local residents, workers and visitors.

The Lurgan Townscape Heritage (Lurgan TH) scheme is a heritage led five-year grant programme, which will act as a catalyst for regenerating and reinvigorating Lurgan, creating a better place to live, work, visit and invest. It will significantly enhance the historic townscape character and visual appearance of the Conservation Area by recreating the rhythm of the streetscape through the promotion of high standards in design, restoration, repair and maintenance.

An exciting programme of over 50 complementary activities and events will be delivered; engaging 115 volunteers and over 10,000 members of the community; which will celebrate and promote the rich history and heritage of the town.

The Lurgan TH will leave a lasting legacy, re-establishing Lurgan as a vibrant historic market town with a valued cultural and built heritage that revolves around the architecture, customs and traditions of the town.

The Lurgan TH is jointly funded by the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council (£2 million), The National Lottery Heritage Fund (£1.93 million) and property owners. It is forecast that by the project’s end a total of £6.6 million will have been invested in the protection and enhancement of Lurgan’s historic environment.
