Manchester Molecular Pathology Innovation Centre

MRC and EPSRC have funded a network of 6 molecular pathology nodes across the UK.The University of Manchester was successful in securing £2.9M from MRC/ EPSRC to establish one such node -- the Manchester Molecular Pathology Innovation Centre (MMPathIC)- this funding was supplemented by an additional £1.5M of industry and institutional commitment.

MMPathIC builds on specific strengths in Manchester’s MRC-funded translational research in inflammatory disease, (notably lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis), and the significant capital investment already made by the MRC to the Stoller Biomarker Discovery Centre. Further capability exists to work across clinical specialities and ‘omic technologies. The MRC/ EPSRC funding will establish an infrastructure (including key staff) to build a pipeline to facilitate the translation of markers from discovery, through implementation and validation of novel pathology tests, to enable expansion of stratified medicine into clinical usage.
