Memory Matters Foundation
Memory Matters is a social enterprise and charity that works together collectively to provide dedicated support to those living locally affected by dementia. We are a team of committed individuals who share an ethos of compassion, kindness, fun, and curiosity, led by Kate Smith, a qualified nurse and award-winning social entrepreneur. We're based in Plymouth, but our impact stretches further.
We run the world's first stigma-squashing high street cafe, Moments – a warm and welcoming environment that provides homemade comfort food served by friendly cafe staff. Just above our cafe, you will find the Memory Matters support hub, which provides immediate access to expert information with strong connections with local NHS services; every penny of profit from the Moments cafe helps fuel these support services.
Within our hub, we offer an on-the-spot drop-in dementia advisory service, two memory cafes that provide a vibrant daily activity schedule, and crucially, provide weekly expert-led Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) groups across the Southwest.
Byond direct support, we're actively involved in training – we equip care home staff across the UK with vital skills in dementia care and understanding behaviours that challenge us, and we're national leaders in CST training.
We also provide dementia-friendly building assessments, ensuring environments are truly supportive, and are proud partners in the NHS-led Dementia Together team in Cornwall, where we deliver an essential dementia support service for those living with dementia in the community.
Everything we do is co-designed with people living with dementia, guaranteeing our services are genuinely needed and valued.
