Migrateful is a cookery and language initiative where asylum seekers, refugees and migrants struggling to access employment in the UK due to legal and linguistic barriers, teach their traditional cuisines to the public. We are running virtual cookery classes during the COVID-19 lockdown, while we are unable to run our regular in-person events, as a way to keep connected and to support our chefs.

What to expect:

The classes are conducted as interactive virtual cook-along sessions. All participants will be sent a list of ingredients and quantities needed for the recipe, the equipment needed for the class, and a Zoom meeting link. During the session, the chef will lead the group step by step through a couple of their favourite authentic recipes; stopping frequently to answer questions, share anecdotes, and provide feedback on the participants' dishes!

Our classes appeal to those interested in learning international recipes, practising a different language and in meeting new people for a cultural exchange in an intimate setting, as well as to those wishing to support migrants and refugees struggling to rebuild their lives.

Customers have said of the online classes: "Thank you! I had so much fun and the chef was very patient and great at explaining! Food was delicious. I am so happy I have leftovers for today. I'd sign up in a heartbeat for the next one!" and "Great lesson. Thank you for doing this and bringing some warmth, spice and flavour into isolation."
