Operation Spitfire

Operation Spitfire 4 Schools (OS4S) is an RAeS award winning, ambitious and locally-rooted education programme that connects young people across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire with high-quality, hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, maths (STEM), and history. Grounded in the remarkable story of Reginald Mitchell and the iconic Spitfire, the project aims to ignite students’ curiosity, raise aspirations, and foster pride in the region’s contributions to scientific and engineering innovation and national resilience.

Designed as a long-term, sustained initiative, OS4S is built around multiple component parts - including curriculum-linked classroom resources, immersive workshops, careers signposting, and partnerships with schools and museums. Central to the programme are the high quality STEM kits that we provide for classes to ensure that all the learners have the best possible learning experiences. In so doing, we ensure that impact is deep, wide-reaching, and lasting.
