Pasty Dakar
Overview
This navigation event is a hybrid of Gps and roadbook navigation, held on the best green lanes Devon has to offer.
Teams of 2-6 persons on ROAD LEGAL trail/adventure or even moped bikes (No enduros allowed sorry). You MUST stay with your team for safety reasons ( No splitting up to gain more points!)
Two classes for entry Novice and Experienced. The navigation prep is the same for both classes. Novice is slightly easier (but not easy!) lanes. Devon lanes can be tricky so if you are asking which class should I join ?... Probably best to go for novice especially if on a big bike! ...Remember you can always turn around or walk the lane to find the waypoint tags.
Saturday 6th June 2026 Pasty Dakar Main Event
Waypoint locations will be emailed to the team captains one month before the start date, these will be in lat/long format and What Three Words. Simply plot these locations on to your chosen form of navigation system and come up with a route to find as many waypoints as possible within the alloted time frame (8am-5pm). You will be given an answer sheet before you leave the campsite in the morning. You MUST be back before 5pm and have handed in your answer sheet.
Prize giving Saturday night.
Sunday 7th June 2026 Optional Roadbook Day
Separately scored ( In the event of a tie then Saturdays scores will be taken into account).
One member of your team will need to have either a powered phone or tablet on their handlebars for this part (Android or iphone). You will need to download a free app called Seekers from either the appstore or playstore. Register a username, tell me the username and I will add you to the group for Sunday's Digital Roadbook event. Everything you will need is within that app so all you will need to do is follow the Tulips(pictures) and match the mileages, simple right! There are hidden virtual waypoints and speed traps within the roadbook measuring your accuracy. At the end of the roadbook you will be given the opportunity to upload your result within the app. The route will be approximately 100kms with a pasty/lunch stop built in. There is no time restriction on this day so no incentive to rush around. Be as accurate as possible and you should comfortably finish by 2-3pm including an hour for lunch.
Location: This year's event will be held at/from Pennymoor campsite in South Devon. It has plenty of space for us and benefits from having an on-site cafe where you can pre-order breakfast and evening meals. They have hard standings for camper vans and plenty of tent spots.
There is a pub two miles away opposite a petrol station with a jetwash and off license.
Both days events are included in the ticket fee..
Camping costs are NOT INCLUDED in the event fee, it's easier to contact them directly with your own requirements. It's a big site and well appointed so no issues getting a pitch.
Any profits from the event will go towards improving future events and towards the Devon Air Ambulance.
