Refugee and Asylum Mental Health Network
Our mission
We are a UK-based network of health professionals with a shared interest in the mental health of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. Our focus is on facilitating and promoting educational, voluntary and advocacy opportunities. We welcome doctors of any grade or speciality, psychologists, allied health professionals and students.
Our vision
Our vision is for health professionals to have the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to support the mental health of refugees and people seeking sanctuary in the UK.
Our aims
- Equip health professionals with a greater understanding of the social and political context surrounding refugees and people seeking sanctuary, and its implications for mental health and wellbeing.
- Learn about the presentation of mental illness, access to care, and effective treatment interventions for this population.
- Learn from each other about examples of good practice and encourage improvements in clinical services.
- Promote opportunities for health professionals to become involved in volunteering, special interest days, activism and/or research activities.
- Facilitate connections between members and promote collaborative working.
- Provide an open learning environment for members with less experience of working in this area.
