Soroptimist International Winchester & District

We work hard to transform the lives of women and girls through Education, Empowerment and Enablement worldwide. We always manage to fuel our efforts with fun, food, and friendship. Soroptimist International is a global women's voluntary organisation. We have consultative status at the United Nations and regularly attend the Commission for the Status of Women in New York at the UN every year in March.

The club supports the Winchester women's Refuge and the Trinity Centre Women's Services The services give support to vulnerable women and those suffering from Domestic Abuse. Counsellors address the issues of loneliness and homelessness, trauma and unemployment. In addition we support the Winchester Beacon locally. We work with the Stop Domestic Abuse team and have recently supported a project by attending Domestic Violence court hearings to follow the legal process and where it may be lacking. Members lobby government, particularly to enforce the Domestic Abuse Bill.

The club holds regular events for fundraising and awareness, the Winchester Hat Fair, car boot sales and the Cathedral Christmas Fair.

Beyond our own club, members value the global network of Soroptimist clubs giving opportunities to travel, meet like-minded women and share ideas across the world.
