Sporting Recovery CIC
Who We Are
Sporting Recovery is an exercise and well-being program for long-term unemployed individuals with mental issues and learning difficulties who have been physically inactive for an extended period. Due to their lifestyle, mental illness, and medication side effects, they are at a high risk of co-morbid diseases, and physical activities are particularly challenging for them.
Our goals are to use physical activity and social interaction to enhance the mental health of individuals recovering from severe mental illness and experiencing mental distress. We are a non-profit Community Interest Company led by individuals from the black community, and we have a ten-year track record of success in improving the mental health of marginalised and isolated people. We are located in South London, offering a variety of activities including badminton, short tennis, basketball, table tennis, football training, gym sessions, non-contact boxing, yoga, salsa dancing, and tai chi. In our Wellness Café, we provide a stigma-free and welcoming environment where individuals experiencing mental distress and those recovering from severe mental illness can socialize. The program takes place every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the South London boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark, and Lewisham. We accept referrals from the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust (SLaM), local authorities, supported living care homes, and self-referrals.
