Studio 45

Studio 45 is an interactive learning space and offers a wide range of courses and workshops in ceramics.  The studio has five teachers working within their own field of expertise and is supported by a large potting community.   We are committed to sustainable practice and have a research arm exploring and experimenting with local materials and low impact firing techniques.  We are committed to working with community groups and charities.

Richenda MacGregor – Creative Director

"I am an Artist working in the field of Art and Ecology. I originally trained as a production potter and glassmaker and have spent twenty five years working professionally as a Maker, Teacher and Trainer – facilitating the transformative process of making pots, and the parallel process of supporting people to empower and transform themselves.  I am discovering working with porcelain at the moment and am currently designing a new range.

Richenda is the Creative Director and visionary behind Studio 45. She also works as a creative facilitator and teacher at Schumacher College.

Mel Chambers – Partner

Mel Chambers is a self-taught Artist and Sculptress living in Cornwall and a former apprentice to Richenda Macgregor. As well as a regular teacher at Studio 45 she also looks after the Operations & Marketing.  She also runs a successful business called Alchemy Tiles, creating beautiful, bespoke hand crafted tiles. Inspired by the magnificent earth and ocean around us Mel is also a sculptress in her own right, working mainly in Raku. Mel also works to commission, you can view her portfolio at www.melchambers.com

Verran Townsend – Partner

"I love to see the impact that spending time up to their elbows in clay has on all those who join our classes and workshops.  It has the same impact on me too.  Something happens which helps to calm a busy mind, relax a stressed body, release a creative spirit.  It's a curious and magical thing.  Passing on skills, and helping others to deepen their practice, finding their unique style, is always a joy."

Verran is a teacher and mentor at Studio 45, and particularly enjoys making bowls.  He also likes to walk, and trains people in the art of natural and compass based navigation on Dartmoor.
