WSP have a great track record of community engagement and fundraising through their local offices and the WSP Foundation combines these to encourage staff to get together in volunteering and fundraising activities.

Sue Cheslett and Chris Hooper are members of the Shrewsbury Pump House WSP Foundation team and have decided to support the Shrewsbury Food Hub. To that end we would like to promote the Food Hub Surplus Food Feast, just to show what can be done with the surplus food that supermarkets throw away. Simply put, the Shrewsbury Food Hub prevent good food going to waste.

  • 45% of the food they deliver is fresh produce: Groups like the Crossbar Foundation have been able to run healthy eating courses with 500 children attending their holiday clubs.
  • In their first year they redistributed 14 tonnes of food - enough for 32,000 meals.
  • They currently provide food to 32 groups including Food Bank Plus, The Ark, Severn Hospice and organisations providing mental health support, 11 schools, 11 youth clubs, 4 Age UK day centres, playgroups and children’s sports clubs.
  • They save community groups money: The Severn Hospice report that we save them 30% of their food budget. Groups are also feeding more people, with better nutrition. Freeing up budget means groups have more to spend on their core services.
