Team Carbon Zerow

On December 12th, 2017, Kyle, James, Brian, and Philip will be stepping off of the dry land of La Gomera in the Canary Islands for the last time, embarking on one of the greatest endurance challenges on earth. For the next 40+ days they will be rowing a 9-meter-long boat 24 hours a day, equipped with all of the food, water, and navigation equipment they'll need to cross the Atlantic under their own power. Once they arrive in Antigua in the Caribbean, they will have been the first certified carbon neutral expedition to cross the Atlantic Ocean. They’re passion for the environment goes beyond their carbon neutral pledge, the team will donate all of their proceeds to their charity, World Land Trust.

Each member of the team is driven and passionate about the cause:

Kyle: The impetus behind the expedition, Kyle had been dreaming about rowing across the Atlantic since he was a young boy. Now studying a PhD in electrical engineering at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland, Kyle focuses his studies and energy into renewable energy. For Kyle, this row is more than a challenge, it's his entire lifestyle

James: The seasoned rower and team whip for fitness, James will be the one to send you a message at 6 in the morning with a picture of his last row, setting the pace for your training. An accountant in London by day, and father and family man the rest of the time, James investments into this team go beyond the spreadsheet.

Brian: Mountaineer, humanitarian, student at Georgetown University, Brian has climbed heights and expanded his mind and heart to better the world around him. Rowing across the Atlantic is just an extension of Brian's drive for raising awareness about climate change. As the teams pragmatist, Brian brings equanimity to the team, a skill that will come in handy in the rolling seas.

Philip: Medic, world traveler, humanitarian, Philip's spirit for adventure knows no bounds. From the frozen desert of Antarctica to the war-torn deserts of Syria, Philip's drive for bettering the world around him has taken him through Hell and back. Philip was riding a motorcycle around Africa when Brian asked him to join the team, so it didn't seem like a longshot that he would jump at the chance, especially given the opportunity to raise awareness for climate change.

A passion for the environment and a penchant for adventure is what drives team Carbon Zerow. Each team member brings a unique set of skills and attributes that will make this a resounding success. And when they set foot on dry land in Antigua again, they’ll have completed one of the most arduous endeavors that men and women can undergo, and all in the name of climate change awareness, with the everlasting dream to make this world a more habitable place.
