The Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights

The history of African, Caribbean and Asian people and their contributions to Scottish history is often forgotten or relegated to a ‘bit part’ but we want to provide an opportunity to promote an inclusive history of Scotland.

Whilst CRER co-ordinates a programme for Black History Month, we also recognise that one month in a year is not acceptable. This is backed up by a  report from the United Nations Committee for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) who recommended “that Scotland’s school curricula [should] contain a balanced account of the history of British Empire and colonialism, including slavery and other grave human rights violations.”

Therefore we want to bring Black History to an audience that is generally unaware of Scotland’s connections to all of this.
