The Dickens Theatre Company

The Dickens Theatre Company was founded in 2015 by Ryan Philpott, Eric Richard and Louise Faulkner.

With a mission statement to create thrilling and compelling dramatisations of Charles Dickens’ greatest works, they chose to start with his most famous tale. The inaugural production of  A Christmas Carol was adapted for six actors by Ryan Philpott, directed by Eric Richard and NT stalwart Paul Higgs added a haunting musical score. The company enjoyed a sell-out limited run at The Guildhall, Rochester.

The atmosphere on that first-night was truly electric. The seventy-five audience members, packed into the Guildhall’s ‘Main Chamber’ audibly cooed as they found themselves sat in Scrooge and Marley’s counting house and then in Scrooge’s lonely mansion and in the midst of the greatest Christmas ghost story ever told! The audience’s reaction and subsequent glowing reviews convinced Eric, Ryan and Louise that this was just the beginning of something exciting. In June 2016 they returned to Rochester with another of Ryan Philpott’s adaptations ‘The Trials of Charles Dickens’ for The Dickens Festival and received great reviews, One matinee sported a rather special guest - Gerald Dickens (Charles Dickens’ great-great grandson), he met the cast afterwards and later that afternoon tweeted “Marvellous. I want some more!

A Christmas Carol 2017 marks the company's fourth production and their first touring venture. Plans are afoot for Spring 2018 and beyond but funding will be crucial to sustaining DTC's development and survival. If you are interested in receiving an Investor pack please email
