We set up The Paignton Picture House Trust in 2014 to purchase, restore and reopen the Paignton Picture House, one of the oldest purpose built cinemas in Europe, for the community. We aim to deliver an inspirational space, not only for cinema and film, but other creative-led activities, education and training.
We secured grant funding to enable us to purchase the building at the end of 2015, and have since carried out emergency repairs to make the building safe to access and prevent any further deterioration of the fabric - the building has been empty for over 15 years. We will now be working to develop and fundraise to deliver the restoration of the building costed at £2milion over the next few years. During this period the building will be open for special events and behind the scenes tours.
