Myeloma (UK) - I was asked to write a little bit about why I wanted to create this event. Before Christmas 2016 I had been unwell, it took several checks and visits to the GP and hospital to discover I had a thyroid issue and subsequent to that, I found a growth, after a few more rounds of endless blood tests and a biopsy on the growth; I was informed I had a form of Leukaemia, they called it Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) which apparently affects people over 60. 'Oh, but I'm only 43' I laughed.. the Consultant said I am a rare case... I don't think he saw the funny side of it…!
The Myeloid Foundation resources on their website were really useful and helped me understand what I was about to face. The people there were helpful and reassuring. I didn't know there were different types of Leukaemia, I just thought they were all terminal. I am lucky because my condition is controllable; however, so many people face uncertain futures or no future at all.
The other charity we are supporting is CALM Swindon. The fantastic work they do and how they support families with children as young as 2 as well as young adults through the difficult, sometimes heart-breaking times they face.
Please give what you can, be it buying a ticket to the show, a raffle ticket or bidding in the auction, no matter how small or large, please know that your generosity will help these brilliant charities.
Thank you, we hope you enjoy the event.
