Volcano Coffee Works
Hi, we're Volcano.
It started with a coffee cart
Eighteen years ago, in West Dulwich, our founder Kurt Stewart showed up with a vintage Italian Piaggio Ape cart, serving his Fullsteam Espresso from the footpath off Rosendale Road. All Kurt wanted to do was introduce more people to better coffee (he knew what that was, being a Kiwi and a seasoned chef). They kept coming, so Kurt kept going - and he hasn’t stopped. Today, Volcano Coffee Works has a roastery, 2 cafés, and a team of 40 people on a mission to build the best coffee company we can, bean by bean. Even to this day, Kurt can be found at the roastery each morning, hand-roasting each batch to perfection. Find out more here.
Our masterclasses
We’re crazy about coffee, and we have a feeling you’re falling head over heels for it too. That’s why we’re here, to show you how to enjoy coffee at its absolute best. Imagine brewing like a pro barista, crafting coffee that’s bursting with flavour, and then sharing those newfound skills with your family and friends.
Join us for our masterclasses at our Brixton Roastery, it’s the perfect way to spend a Saturday with friends, both old and new (yes, we mean us!). Making great coffee is a blend of science and art. Sure, there’s a bit of precision involved, the water and milk at the right temperature, the beans ground to perfection, the cup angled just right... but coffee is also an experience, an art form that engages all your senses. And trust us, science has never smelled as good as our masterclasses do.
These sessions aren’t just about brewing a good cup; they’re about diving into the world of coffee with award-winning, championship-level baristas (and yes, Barista Championships are a real thing!). It’s more than a lesson, it’s a celebration of coffee. Come taste, learn, and fall even more in love with every sip.
