Sara has a longstanding background in children's education and was previously a Head of Department for Religious Studies, PSHE and Citizenship in a secondary school in Manchester, as well as a school governor. Sara is a fully trained and IYN accredited Yoga and Mindfulness practitioner for children; she delivers sessions through after school clubs, family yoga workshops and events around the North West for children and their families. She also brings children's yoga to primary and secondary school settings, as well as for children with additional needs, be they physical, emotional, mental, or social.
Sara is currently studying a 200hour Yoga Teacher Training Diploma with Yogacampus, and has had the privilege to have worked - and continue to work with - teachers including Janine Hurley, Jane Craggs, Amanda Latchmore, and Graham Burns. This summer she studied with Shiva Rea in London, as part of a Bhakti immersion of prana flow, mantra and heart opening sequences.
Sara hosts sessions and workshops involving asana postures, cultural dance, breathing techniques and meditative relaxation. These sessions are delivered through storytelling and song, and are tailored to meet the varying needs of students or themes of classes. Mindfulness activities involve creative exploration through art and craft (e.g. creating mandalas and dream catchers), collaborative games and meditation which can be linked to yoga philosophy and Sanskrit chanting. Yoga and Mindfulness are great for children because they offer a chance for imaginative discovery of self and others, collaboration with peers and family members, relaxation and stillness as well as non-competitive movement, dance, fun and laughter.
