We are York’s new, inclusive feminist activist group. We aim to cultivate a safe, tolerant space and acknowledge that feminism is a learning experience and that we are all at different stages of our journey. We hope that members will feel free to ask questions and that people will be happy to aid with discussions and signposting but recognise that it is no-one’s obligation or responsibility to educate us (particularly in matters of privilege). Though we want to welcome and encourage open and honest discussion, we hold the following values at the heart of our group and these principles are not up for debate-
YFC is inclusive and respectful of all (and no) genders and do not believe that a person’s gender identity is a matter for debate
YFC is sex work and sex worker positive and inclusive
YFC strives to be intersectional and rejects the concept and discussion of ‘Reverse Racism’
YFC is for the whole community of York not just the universities
YFC exists as a place to come together for the primary objectives of solidarity and activism
YFC values of the lived experience of all of its members and seeks to acknowledge this by asking that content notes and trigger warnings are used as appropriate
We meet to plan and organise feminist activist events on the last Thursday of the month and have regular socials too. We are currently looking for a cheap, accesbile space to hold our meetings so currently meet in members own homes. If you'd like to come to one of our meetings, email us the day before (or on the day) and we'll provide the location details.
