Over three years ago High Trees Community Development Trust (CDT) worked in a partnership with Locality (the nationwide network of development trusts, community enterprises, settlements and social action centres), to bring Community Organising to Tulse Hill. High Trees initially hosted four Trainee Community Organisers, who received training through the then Locality Managed Community Organisers programme before High Trees went on to employ three when their training year ended. Three years on we still employ two community organisers who help to ensure that our organisation’s actions are informed by the needs of local people where possible.
The Community Organisers programme is all about inspiring community action at a neighbourhood level. Community Organisers listen to the concerns of people in their area, build relationships and help people take action on local issues that matter to them.
During their time in Tulse Hill, High Trees Community Organisers have listened to well over 1000 residents and have supported a number of resident led projects in the Tulse Hill neighbourhood.
