About this course

The course shows you how gestural brush-strokes and mark-making gives the impression of spontaneity in your compositions. Create abstract floral compositions by experimenting with media and tools. Learn how to create impact in a composition by capturing vibrant colours, movement, textures. Floral art in an abstract style brings the spotlight onto the colours

What will be covered on the course?

  • Artist research: Petra Tholken
  • Working out innovative, dynamic compositions, full of energy and colours
  • Using a bright, colourful palette, with dynamic and bold mark making
  • Painting techniques: impasto, scumbling, sgrafitto, drips and blending

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

  • Learners will know how to use quick and bold marks with thick paint to create expressive floral compositions in acrylics
  • We will explore how texture, colour and line can really help to achieve a visually interesting composition.

  • 40 x 50 cm Stretched canvas/ Canvas board
  • acrylic paper
  • Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber, and Titanium White acrylic paint, white acrylic
  • gesso
  • palette
  • glycerin
  • spray bottle
  • a range of synthetic paint brushes
  • graphite pencils
  • metal palette knife
  • silicone spatula

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.
