About this course

This course is for anyone that loves fabrics and stitching, or those who want to have a go. Over the course you will gain the confidence to create prints with traditional carved blocks from India. We also look at how you embellish them with stitching and accessories (such as beads etc.).

Learners are required to provide their own substance to print onto this can be fabric such as cotton and sewing kit including sewing threads and embroidery floss or twisted threads.

Throughout the course, you will:

  • Gain and understanding of equipment - Know how to print with wooden blocks
  • Build up knowledge of colour theory
  • Develop knowledge on development and Structure Patterns
  • Gain some understanding of artists and their use of patterns
  • Develop Stitching skills

What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

  • Be able to understand the process how the printing blocks are made.
  • Be able to create prints onto fabric
  • Understand colour theory and descriptive an example of some colour relationships
  • Be able to embellish the prints with embroidery
  • Develop/improve their eye and hand coordination
  • Show an ability of reflecting on your learning
  • Analyse the benefits of creative activities to improved mental health
  • Fabric – this can be anything such as old bed linen, something you want to stitch onto
  • Inferencing if fabric is thin (optional)

  • Sewing kit, threads and beads etc
