Description

Learn how to produce interactive data visualisations that tell rich, compelling stories

Data visualisation is the web's most powerful storytelling tool. Static data visualisations help people make instant sense of a complex story – an interactive makes it personal. As demonstrated by the success of the Guardian's data journalism – from WikiLeaks and MPs expenses to the recent London property search – interactives provide a more compelling experience for users by allowing them to find out how data are interlinked, and see how stories are relevant to their own lives.

If you're already producing infographics but want to add a new dimension to your storytelling, this course offers a fast and easy-to-follow way to master the basics of interactive data visualisation. You'll learn how to get hold of data using an API; how to make it interactive using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and how to use animated graphics and dynamic functions to bring it to life. The course is suitable for coding novices, and you'll end the evening with a completed web-ready interactive data visualisation, along with the knowledge you need to tell more attractive, entertaining and informative data stories.

This course is for you if...

  • You already make static infographics on a regular basis and want to take your first steps into producing interactive data visualisations for the web

PLEASE NOTE: Attendees should bring along a laptop with Google Chrome and Sublime Text installed. Both can be downloaded for free.

This course is suitable for complete beginners to coding, but attendees must be familiar with the principles of data visualisation. Follow this link to browse our full range of data visualisation courses
