By how they were named, you’d think London’s skyscrapers described the contents of a messy kitchen floor: a cheese grater, a pringle, a gherkin, a shard of glass. But they are responsible for making London’s cityscape one of the most iconic sights on the planet, and we’re right in the middle of it. You just need a view.
London’s venues offer just that. Everything from iconic, postcard panoramas, to the unusual, and unexpected. Here are seven of the best, and they’re available for private hire.
1. Vista
This heart-melting venue, brimming with pink and purple flourishes, blossoming flowers and flickering candles, would be one of England’s most desirable venues no matter where it was. But it just so happens to be perched atop The Trafalgar Hotel, giving you an incomparable view of Nelson’s column and Trafalgar Square. And, with it available for private hire, you can have the view all to yourselves.
2. Netil 360
If you’re after panoramas, it doesn’t come much better than this – especially if you don’t want to be crammed inside the frenzy of the city, but are after somewhere distant, detached and relaxed. Netil 360 offers all this: a 360 degree view, a beautiful decked terrace, and, most importantly, plenty of beer and good food.
A sizzling rooftop, a whisky sour, and one of the world’s most famous cathedrals. It might not be quite how St. Paul originally pictured it, but this is the city’s best place to enjoy the cathedral. And, with a retractable roof, nothing can dampen the view.
4. Coppa Rooftop
COPPA Rooftop might not offer the typical postcard view of London’s skyscraperscape (yep, that’s a real word), but it does offer one that feels quintessentially London. Summer BBQs, beautiful people and exceptionally well-groomed dogs will congregate on London Fields in vast numbers this summer, and COPPA overlooks it all.
5. ArcelorMittal
There are two views at The ArcelorMittal Orbit, Britain’s largest piece of public art. Firstly, outside: the entire stretch of London, from Zone 1 to 9. But secondly, there’s the view inside: two gigantic mirrors, ingeniously shaped so that they hilariously stretch and twist all your guests’ reflections. Both have to be seen to be believed.
As well as offering a stunning spread of the London skyline, Westminster Boating Base floats atop The Thames itself, immersing guests in the iconic river. Rather than focusing solely on London’s manmade structures, this venue offers a new light on its great natural landmark.
This list wouldn’t be complete without the incomparable experience of Searcys at The Gherkin. Encased in a glass palace, you’re submerged in the midst of the spirally skyscrapers that surround the iconic tower, with every possible angle offering a new perspective. There really is nothing like it anywhere else in the world.
