Organisateur de Te Tūmahanatanga Tawhiti - Summer Programme
UK-based Te Maru o Hinemihi is leading the programme "Te Tūmahanatanga Tawhiti - An International Exchange of Knowledge, Art and Culture" in London, UK, mid 2024, alongside their partners Ngā Kohinga Whakairo o Hinemihi (Aotearoa, NZ) and the National Trust. The programme includes Māori language courses at varying levels as well as discussions on Māori carvings, woven tukutuku panels and traditional protocols, within the context of Hinemihi, a Māori meeting house. An agreement in principle has been made for the original historic carvings of Hinemihi te Ao Tawhiti, a traditional Māori meeting house in the garden at National Trust - Clandon Park, Surrey, to return to her home in New Zealand. In exchange, a modern traditional meeting house is proposed to be built at Clandon with carvings from expert Māori carvers, allowing the important cultural connection between New Zealand and the UK to continue. This Summer programme is supported through the British Council's #ConnectionsThroughCulture grants programme. Creating new #arts and cultural partnerships between Aotearoa New Zealand and the UK.Find out more about Hinemihi te Ao Tawhiti at https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/surrey/clandon-park/history-of-hinemihi
