Technologies of Hope- Remote Lecture- **Postponed**

The 4th lecture in our 1 O'Clock lecture series for a talk entitled 'Technologies of Hope' given by Roger Shawyer on his EmDrive engine with discussion to be chaired by leading British environmentalist and writer Jonathon Porritt.

It has long been acknowledged that the ultimate solution to the Climate Change problem would be Solar Power Satellites in Geostationary orbit, and large sunshields positioned at the Sun/Earth L1 point. However the large launch masses involved, e.g. 10,000 Tonnes for a 2GW SPS, have always made these solutions very unlikely.

A radical new propulsion technology is required to enable very low cost access to space, and this lecture describes one such technology, the propellant-less EmDrive, which has its origins in cold war missile research. The subsequent development work has been shrouded in secrecy and public controversy, and has therefore been largely overlooked by the wider scientific community. With the technology now maturing, it is time for EmDrive to come out of the shadows, and provide solutions to the urgent problems facing the world.

In the longer term, EmDrive can also enable a new way of living, with all transport being hydrogen fuelled, and with self-sustaining, Aerial Refuge Communities, to ensure the future of the human race on a rapidly changing Earth.
