East Grinstead Museum is a local history museum in the heart of this historic town. It tells the story both of the development of the town, from the Middle Ages to the modern day, and of the remarkable story of SIr Archibald McIndoe a pioneering plastic surgeon and the air men who's lives he saved during the Second World War.It hosts a variety of engaging events from local history talks to children's activities, exhibitions and many other things besides.

Geoffrey Page was one of the most remarkable pilots of the Second World War. Shot down during the Battle of Britain, his hands and face were badly burned. Over two years he endured fifteen complex operations under the ground-breaking care of the legendary surgeon, Archibald McIndoe at the Queen Victoria Hospital. He was one of the founding members of the Guinea Pig Club.Despite his horrific injuries Page returned to flying, taking part in action in North Africa and over France.Using unpublished material from extensive family archives, John Willis' new book tells the unvarnished story of Page's extraordinary life, filled with humour and humanity of the complexity of his life. It candidly examines his difficulties in post war life and how he overcame them to be both a leading figure within the Guinea Pig Club, and one of the founders of the Battle of Britain Trust. <h4>About the Speaker</h4>One of Britain's best known television executives, John Willis is a former Director of Programmes at Channel 4 and Director of Factual and Learning at the BBC. Today he now chairs the Board of Governors at the Royal Central School for Speech and Drama. He divides his time between London and Norfolk.
