Join prize-winning authors Maame Blue and Chibundu Onuzo to discuss their latest novels and the meaning of the Twi proverb Sankofa - 'It is not taboo to go back and fetch what you have forgotten'.Maame Blue: The Rest of You is an emotionally wrenching book, set in today’s London and 90s Ghana, exploring generational trauma and what it means to be Black British, surviving the gaps of knowledge around familial migrant journeys. Spanning three decades and told through the viewpoints of her characters, Whitney, her aunts, Gloria and Aretha, and Maame Serwaa, The Rest of You explores what happens when we try to resolve the mysteries of our past. A powerful tale of womanhood, friendship and the Black British experience.Chibundu Onuzo: Sankofa is a moving novel of self-discovery. Anna's only parent - who raised her - is dead. Searching through her belongings, she finds clues about the West African father she never knew. Through reading his student diary, chronicling his involvement in radical politics in 1970s London, she discovers that he eventually became the president - some would say the dictator - of Bamana in West Africa. And he is still alive!
