Granton Wasteland, a walk with poetry

The Walk Club, Edinburgh and other walking activities take place in North Edinburgh and elsewhere. Covering a wide variety of subjects and themes, the Walk Club is a brand-new Edinburgh walking / wheeling club offering ambulatory meet-ups that focus on local history, art, and urban nature ~ with a twist ~ Each walk will have a theme and celebrate events such as the Festival of Terminalia, the Urban Tree Festival, May Day, and the Autumn Equinox. The walks will be stimulating and the company friendly. Fresh air and gentle exercise are promised, whether you are on wheels or feet, and the Walk Club is open to everyone. Children and dogs are welcome. The aim is to be accessible, inclusive, and flexible.Moving slowly through the urban landscape allows for higher quality noticing and time to pay attention. Pauses are important so we can look, smell, and discover. We will embrace community, as well as silence and conversation.With experience in the arts and community settings, I offer walks (ecological, history and psychogeography, for example) in Edinburgh and elsewhere in Europe. They are participatory, safe and inclusive. I also run workshops in venues such as Edinburgh Central Library and for festivals such as the Festival of Terminalia.

Meet 13 Hesperus Crossway EH5 1SL W3W///fats.inch.wrongHarbour Connections and Tamsin Grainger, local artist and walk leader, invite you for a visit to a small patch of local wasteland where there is a provocative artwork and the makings of a guerilla garden. We will take a slow walk, plant some bulbs, and talk about the way green spaces nourish us. The artist will show and share her banner, Tessa Berring will read the poem which inspired the textile artwork, and Catharine Ward Thompson will talk about her research into the health benefits of local, cared-for, green spaces. This event will challenge you to notice the hidden and destitute corners we walk past every day and see what grows there. Together we will dream together about a different world.
