HIGH END TV WEBINAR SERIES: Developing Your Career from Shorts to TV Drama

Northern Film + Media and the Tees Valley Combined Authority have joined forces to create Tees Valley Screen, an exciting new Tees Valley-wide development programme supporting people and companies across film, television, artist moving image and broader screen industries. The programme provides artists residencies, workshops, socials and opportunities to break into and develop careers within the screen industries for people in the North East. It also generates a more attractive environment within the region for film businesses to stay here and flourish. The project is headquartered in Hartlepool and funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Tees Valley Combined Authority and Arts Council England.

The first in our series of High End TV Webinars! This time, learn how to develop your career from Shorts to TV Drama with Lewis Arnold

Our High End TV Webinar series invites leading industry speakers to share their experiences and insight, touching upon: <ul><li>Job roles and career paths in high end TV drama </li><li>Personal stories – how they progressed, highs and lows, career highlights </li><li>How you can develop your own ideas for scripted television </li><li>Working with producers and commissioners – pitching to the likes of ITV, C4 &amp; Netflix </li><li>Reflections on TV production in the COVID-19 era</li></ul>#1: Developing Your Career from Shorts to TV Drama Director Lewis Arnold talks us through his career journey from early roles in film as a runner and 1st AD, to directing short films and episodes of major series including Misfits and Humans. We’ll discuss the process of getting those first commissions, directing series blocks and working with broadcasters, as well as developing your own projects from idea to commission to production.About Lewis ArnoldLewis began his TV career directing episodes of the BAFTA-winning Misfits for C4 and Russel T Davies’ Banana for E4. In 2015 he directed two episodes of C4/AMC series Humans, C4’s most successful original drama in over 20 years, as well as an episode of Broadchurch for Sister Pictures. In 2017/18 Lewis directed Cleaning Up for ITV and Sister Pictures and starring Sheridan Smith, having developed the project with writer and creator Mark Marlow. He also directed Dark Money, a four-part drama for the BBC and The Forge. Lewis has just wrapped filming on ITV’s upcoming miniseries Des, starring David Tennant as Dennis Nilsen, a project he developed with writer Luke Neal. This Webinar will be shown via Zoom.
