For some children, a traditional school setting just isn't the right fit. Whether due to unmet needs, mental health challenges, trauma or disability, there are legal alternatives — but many families don’t know they exist, or how to access them.Education Other Than In School (EOTIS) is one of those options. But navigating the process can feel overwhelming and misinformation is everywhere — even among professionals.To clarify, we’re increasingly seeing the term EOTIS used by professionals and judges in place of EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than At School) — but they refer to the same legal provision.
