This applicant webinar will introduce and explain the funding opportunity focused on supporting the early adoption of new trusted research environment (TRE) capabilities. This opportunity, which is <a href="https://dareuk.org.uk/news-and-events/applications-now-open-new-rapid-funding-opportunity-for-dare-uk-transformational-programme-tre-early-adoption/" title="https://dareuk.org.uk/news-and-events/applications-now-open-new-rapid-funding-opportunity-for-dare-uk-transformational-programme-tre-early-adoption/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">open for applications</a>, offers funding for projects to be delivered rapidly between January 2025 and the end of March 2026.The funding opportunity will support eligible organisations in advancing critical TRE components, such as federated analysis, AI and semi-automated output checking, and TRE reference architecture and implementations. Up to £400,000 out of a maximum total fund of £1,850,000 is available for projects at 80% of full economic cost (fEC). <h3>Webinar agenda and key topics covered</h3>About the funding opportunityThe webinar will commence with an overview of the funding call, emphasising its objective to accelerate the early adoption of new TRE capabilities being developed as part of the DARE UK Transformational Programme. Attendees will be informed of funding terms, eligibility criteria, and timelines for projects to support activities.Overview of capabilitiesEach of the capabilities targeted for early adoption will be explained in the webinar:<ul><li>Federated analysis: Facilitates data analysis across TREs situated in different physical or organisational settings, enabling cross-institutional collaboration while preserving data security and privacy.</li><li>AI and semi-automated output checking: Enhancing TRE disclosure control capabilities, specifically by incorporating semi-automated tooling and AI-driven recommendations to ensure the safe 'release' of models trained on sensitive datasets.</li><li>TRE reference architecture and implementations: Developing platform-agnostic, "infrastructure-as-code" versions of the SATRE (Standardised Architecture for Trusted Research Environments) specification to enable automated deployment of software-defined TREs.</li></ul>Application guidanceThe application process will be outlined, including essential components and evaluation criteria. Specific advice will also be given on addressing the funding call’s requirements, such as detailing how the proposed project would enhance the adoption of the specified TRE capabilities, providing a clear timeline and methodology, etc.Eligibility and funding scopeThe webinar will also cover eligibility, which is aligned with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)'s standards. Questions about funding allocation and eligible costs may addressed, clarifying the 80% fEC grant model and possible examples of allowable expenses for this short-term, high-impact funding call.Q&A sessionThe webinar will conclude with an interactive Q&A session, allowing attendees to seek clarification on various aspects, such as the nature of the projects, eligibility, application process and documents, and more.
