What role can African philosophy play in shaping development across the continent? 🌍 How can identity empower Africans in the diaspora to build stronger connections and community? 🌎 What barriers prevent true solidarity within African communities, both at home and abroad? 🤝 And does the philosophy of Ubuntu—“I am because you are”—offer all the answers, or does it have its own challenges? ✨Join us on 26 November, 6:30-7:30 PM (UK Time) on Zoom for a interactive powerful conversation on these questions and more. Co-hosted by the Young Africa Centre (YAC), the Young Emerging Leaders Collective (YELC) and the University of the Western Cape (UWC) South Africa, this talk brings together leading voices to explore how African philosophical insights can guide unity, resilience, and action across the diaspora and beyond. 💬 Speakers include:

🌍 Kiasha Naidoo is an Associate Lecturer at the University of the Western Cape and a Doctoral candidate in the Department of Philosophy at Stellenbosch University. Her work falls broadly into the fields of hermeneutic phenomenology, critical theory, and black radical thought. Kiasha’s dissertation seeks to rewrite the history of neoliberal subjectivity as situated in a long history of racial subjectification.

🌍 Jurgen V. Wolfenden is a doctoral candidate at Stellenbosch University, specialising in Sustainability Transitions with a deep-seated commitment to applied Environmental Ethics. Jurgen’s work blends African and Vedic ethical perspectives, positioning him as a thought leader in multidisciplinary approaches to sustainable community transformation across Africa. With a background in both academic and practical spheres, he is focused on fostering intentional communities and alternative models of communal living that respond to the socio-environmental challenges of our time.Grounded in his meditative practice, Jurgen approaches complex problems with a unique blend of analytical rigor and holistic insight, valuing both intellectual and spiritual dimensions in addressing systemic issues. His leadership experience is marked by a capacity to nurture diverse teams, facilitate cross-disciplinary research, and inspire forward-thinking dialogue around social and environmental issues, communal well-being, and transformative education. He has a proven track record of engaging students and communities alike in meaningful sustainability practices, as well as promoting the ecological and ethical values embedded in Vedic and African traditions.Dedicated to transformative change making, Jurgen envisions a future where communities live in harmony with nature and themselves, driven by ethical principles that honour both ecological stewardship and social justice. His ongoing research aims to provide actionable insights for building resilient, spiritually grounded communities that thrive amid today's global challenges

🌍 Sabelo Ndwandwe teaches philosophy at Rhodes University. He is a Doctoral fellow in the School of Divinity, History, Philosophy, and Art History at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. His work combines philosophy, critical race theory, and social history to think about Black Maleness as a peculiar social location of sexual victimization and disposability that remains understudied in [southern] African Studies. He holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Philosophy (UFH) and an MPhil in Race &amp; Cultural Studies (London). He is a member of the Azanian Philosophical Society.
