About this event

  • 3 hours 30 minutes

Chiminyo is a drummer and producer from North London, with his tech-heavy drum kit set-up, combines the raw, immediate live sound of percussion and the futuristic timbres of his electronic productions to create his own, daring soundworld. Via laboriously self-coded software, each cymbal crash and drum hit triggers a synth or sample, allowing Chiminyo complete control and freeing him of all loops, click-tracks and backing tracks. Every sound effect is performed live, producing an idiosyncratic kind of music that has led to solo performances at Love Supreme Festival and London Jazz Festival, features on Worldwide FM and Jazzwise, and releases via Gearbox Records.

As well as his own solo project, Chiminyo performs and records with some of the leading figures of London’s music scene, including spiritual jazz-leaning outfit Maisha and psychedelic energy bomb Cykada. He has also collaborated and recorded with Gary Bartz, Nubya Garcia, Shabaka Hutchings, Theon Cross, and Zara McFarlane. The drummer, who through his craft uses a range of technological equipment, is also sponsored by Roland and Bosphorus, as well as being an Ableton artist.

Described by Clash magazine as “the boldest percussionist in the country” Chiminyo’s music has reached critical acclaim with support by the likes of Gilles Peterson, BBC 1Xtra and Jazz FM. He was also awarded the Jazz FM Digital Award in 2020 whilst his track ‘Kandy Lanx’ was nominated for Worldwide FM track of the year Award.

Danalogue's sonic odyssey truly took flight when he discovered the boundless possibilities of synthesizers. With an insatiable curiosity and an intuitive grasp of sound design, he embarked on a quest to push the boundaries of traditional music genres, blending elements of jazz, funk, and electronica into a transcendent sonic tapestry.

As a founding member of the acclaimed electronic jazz trio, The Comet Is Coming, Danalogue soared to new heights, propelling audiences into cosmic dimensions with their electrifying live performances, and other-worldly studio productions. The trio’s album "Channel the Spirits" garnered critical acclaim, earning Danalogue a prestigious Mercury Prize nomination, and the following 2 albums took their music around the globe with several exhilarating world tours. As a sonic architect, Danalogue continues to push boundaries, crafting immersive soundscapes from reams of tape, often from hours of improvised studio takes, fusing the language of anarchic freedom of expression with detailed post-production.

Beyond The Comet Is Coming, Danalogue's collaborative spirit thrives. His co- production work with Alabaster DePlume and Snapped Ankles showcase his versatility, and his evergreen duo Soccer96 with drummer Betamax toured Japan in 2023 and will tour Mexico in 2024, captivating audiences with his cosmic synths and pulsating rhythms. Upon returning to London after an extensive world tour, Danalogue finds himself reinvigorated and eager to collaborate with a new cast of musicians.

Reconnecting with the vibrant music scene, he seeks inspiration from his community at the Total Refreshment Centre and beyond. Surrounded by fellow artists and creatives, Danalogue dives into a variety of new collaborative projects, drawing upon the diverse influences and energies of his surroundings.
