<h4>Waking up wondering WTF is wrong with the world?</h4><h3>There’s Hope!</h3> Current mental health care and treatment isn’t working for the majority of people who need it. More and more people need help, which is hardly surprising given the state of play, locally, nationally and globally. Referral rates are through the roof. Exhausted staff are overwhelmed. waiting lists grow longer and longer, the VCSE is on its knees. Nationally, sickness absence is up 55% with mental health taking the lion’s share. North East Suicide and drug/alcohol deaths (Deaths of Despair) are double what they are in London. In 3 years, the likelihood of young people having a mental health problem has increased by 50%; indicating a future landscape that demands very different approaches to what’s available now. The ReCoCo Symposium will look at what actually works, and can be made available to all. Non-clinical, community approaches, people-powered resilience and resistance to the pressures placed upon them. Enabling people to live their best lives, utilising their hard-earned experience of distress, for good. Connection, purpose, exercise, day to day coping techniques, nature, music therapy, psychedelic integration. ReCoCo are helping hundreds of people at our city centre base in Newcastle, and across Newcastle, Gateshead and beyond. With recognition to how crushing the pressures are out there; we will showcase the most effective and innovative peer led approaches to mental health that have been proven to work. And to round off the symposium, we have an auction:

The ReCoCo Taster Sessions will allow you to experience a snippet of the peer-led education delivered by our fantastic Therapeutic Enablers and Volunteers, all of whom take on their mental health and wellbeing challenges and choose to share their learning, their resilience and their compassion with others.
There are four sessions to choose from: WRAP, DBT skills, Reducing the Rage and Wellbeing


ReCoCo Tasters (choice of 4)

Take time in this session to identify your wellness tools and what keeps you well. It might be the things we don't even notice: the morning cup of tea, the 20 minute walk with the dog. If we don't notice that it keeps us well, we won't prioritise when things are getting too much.

WRAP (Option 1)

What skills do I need to keep me regulated everyday and which ones do I need to manage those periods of distress? In this session, you'll get a chance to recognise the difference and learn skills to help when the world has got too much.

DBT skills (Option 2)

What's the difference between anger and aggression? What makes us angry and what might be really going on underneath? This session will get you thinking about these questions and help you to think about other emotions that may be masked by anger.

Reducing the Rage (Option 3)

Discover the power of breathwork and drumming to release stress, boost energy and deepen your connection to yourself. An uplifting session that combines rhythmic beats and mindful breathing.

Wellbeing (Option 4)

Psychedelics and their potential for wellbeing/harm
