Online Training Days

A series of online training events and lectures covering key child and teen mental health topics.  Vital training for any child professional and/or parent wanting to help children and teenagers overcome mental health problems.

<h3>Overview</h3>This training takes as its focus, the use of Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) in parent-child therapy sessions. DDP brings together attachment theory, developmental trauma, the neurobiology of trauma and intersubjectivity theory. DDP is a therapy, a parenting approach, and a practice approach for those working within healthcare, counselling, therapy social care and education.On the training, Dan will discuss using DDP with parents and children who are stuck in negative relational patterns, resulting in repeated failed connections, misconnections and attachment ruptures. Many times, this is due to blocked care on the part of the parent and blocked trust on the part of the child or teenager. Blocked trust occurs when a child develops a mistrust of others after experiencing rejection, abuse, neglect, or inconsistent relationships. This mistrust can make it difficult for children to connect with both parents and well-meaning adults. Blocked care develops in parents after too many stress-inducing, hurtful, rejecting and in some cases, violent interactions with their child. These block the parent’s capacity to sustain loving and empathic feelings. In blocked care, parenting tends to become a matter of just going through the motions and reacting to problems rather than being able to hold in mind the child’s emotional state and use PACE.On the training, Dan will use powerful case examples and live role plays to demonstrate enabling parents and children to find each other again in rich, rewarding and loving ways. He is also originator of PACE used by child psychologists and practitioners all over the world. Dan has changed the way people work therapeutically with children and families using his highly effective model Dan’s empathic way of relating to children and young people can bring about major changes often in a few sessions.He is a Clinical Psychologist and author of many books including 'Building the Bonds of Attachment'; 'Healing Relational Trauma'; 'Attachment Focused Family Therapy'; 'Attachment Focused Parenting'; 'Brain Based Parenting'.He has decades of groundbreaking and profoundly moving clinical practice with very traumatised adolescents who have moved into violence.
