Meet literary agents Davinia Andrew-Lynch (Andlyn Literary Agency), Elise Dillsworth (Elise Dillsworth Agency) and Emma Paterson (Aitken Alexander Associates). Learn how they represent writers of colour as well as the nuts and bolts of being an agent, from discoverability to negotiating contracts to getting the best deal for writers amid a publishing industry that needs to be more inclusive.The panel discussion will be chaired by Dr Melanie Ramdarshan Bold, Associate Professor in Publishing and Book Cultures at UCL.EligibilityYou must be an emerging writer of colour (Black, Asian, Arabic or Mixed-Race) based in the UK. This covers writers who are, as yet, unpublished and writers who have had no more than two books published.If this fits who you are then you can just book to confirm your place. EvaluationAll attendees will be sent a short online evaluation form to complete post-event. This will help us tailor future events.<h3>About our panel</h3>Davinia Andrew-LynchDavinia Andrew-Lynch is a Literary Agent and the founder of boutique literary agency <a href="https://www.andlyn.co.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Andlyn</a>.  Initially specialising in children&#x27;s and YA Fiction the agency has now expanded to represent adult authors of commercial fiction and non-fiction. Previously, Davinia was an associate agent in a film/TV agency and a freelance children’s fiction editor. Davinia has drawn upon these skills to offer an intimate service tailored around her client&#x27;s needs, in the hope of allowing her agency to become a place to nurture an author&#x27;s talent as well as their careers. Davinia&#x27;s clients include Annabelle Sami, Bex Hogan and Malcolm Duffy. Prior to that Emma worked at Rogers, Coleridge &amp; White, and The Wylie Agency. Emma was named as a Bookseller Rising Star in 2018. Emma focuses on literary fiction, poetry, and a wide range of non-fiction: her authors include Bernadine Evaristo, winner of the 2019 Booker Prize; Mary Jean Chan, winner of the 2019 Costa Poetry Prize; Megan Hunter, author of The End We Start From; New Yorker staff writer Sam Wright, and Sunday Times bestseller Otegha Uwagba. Bernadine Evaristo is the first Black woman to win the Booker Prize and Mary Jean Chan is the first poet of colour to win the Costa Poetry Prize. It is a collaboration between University College London (UCL), Spread the Word and Words of Colour. Some of the country’s leading novelists, poets, playwrights, literary agents and publishers of colour will be sharing their expertise in a series of free talks, masterclasses, workshops, panel discussions and presentations over five weeks, made possible by a grant from the UCL Knowledge and Innovation Rapid Response fund.The Take Flight Hub was inspired by <a href="https://www.booktrust.org.uk/what-we-do/programmes-and-campaigns/booktrust-represents/representation-of-people-of-colour-among-childrens-book-authors-and-illustrators/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">BookTrust Represents</a> research conducted by Dr Melanie Ramdarshan Bold, Associate Professor in Publishing and Book Cultures at UCL, which found that emerging writers of colour needed support, advice and access as part of an industry focused network to help sustain their careers.About Words of Colour<a href="https://wordsofcolour.co.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Words of Colour Productions</a> is a creative communications agency that develops, promotes and facilitates writers of colour of all genres. We collaborate with arts and creative industries to increase cultural inclusion, and create multi-platform and multi-media projects to reshape the single narrative misrepresenting culturally diverse communities.
