The Creation of St James's

Dilettanti was founded by Sarah Bowles and Philippa Barton in 1980 to encourage the study and the enjoyment of the arts. The programme of events is made up of full and half days of visits, often combining  background lectures by expert speakers, which provide a context to the particular subject.

The history and building of Spencer House

<p>Despite the tragic loss of some of the great mansions of London in the first half of the twentieth century, the magnificent Spencer House with its famous interiors by John Vardy and James Stuart has survived and been returned to its eighteenth-century splendour. The lecture will trace the  architectural development of this great house.</p>
