COVID-19 in Pregnancy: Postnatal & Neonatal Care during the Pandemic

In 2019, University of Birmingham obtained the designation ofWorld Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Global Women’s Healthfor its research supporting WHO’s programmes on maternal and perinatal health.Located within theInstitute of Metabolism and Systems Research (IMSR), the collaborating centre undertakes cutting edge translational scientific research, addressing the health needs of pregnant women and newborns in low- and middle-income countries, and globally.As part of this work, we support the relevant WHO programmes by providing expertise in evidence synthesis, clinical trials, maintaining international pregnancy databases, and through capacity building activities.Elly Charityworks to promote and protect women’s health in the UK and internationally by training and educating healthcare workers in how to provide optimal care during pregnancy and childbirth. It supports research excellence in women’s health with a focus on accelerating the application of research into healthcare environments. It became a Registered Charity in 2020.

<h3>A series of global learning webinars to provide guidance about the management and care of pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic.</h3><h3>The <a href="https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/research/who-collaborating-centre/index.aspx" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">WHO Collaborating Centre for Global Women&#x27;s Health</a> at the University of Birmingham and <a href="https://www.elly.org.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Elly Charity</a>, are pleased to invite you to the third in a series of online global learning events on evidence-based guidance for the management and care of pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic.</h3><p>Over the coming weeks, we will host a series of learning webinars. In each of these, our panellists will discuss a range of topics including adapting services to care for pregnant and recently pregnant women during the pandemic, management of women with suspected and confirmed COVID-19, and the latest evidence in this area.</p><p>These webinars will explore strategies on how to minimise the risk of transmission and adverse outcomes for mothers, babies and healthcare professionals by harnessing the clinical and research expertise of our panellists. We will also cover how to minimize risk of COVID-19 transmission to healthcare professionals.</h3><h3>Chair:</h3><p>Professor <a href="https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/staff/profiles/metabolism-systems/Thangaratinam-Shakila.aspx" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><strong>Shakila Thangaratinam</strong></a><strong> </strong>is the co-Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Global Women&#x27;s Health. She is a Professor of Maternal and Perinatal Health and leads the <a href="https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/research/who-collaborating-centre/pregcov/index.aspx" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><strong>PregCOV-19 living systematic review</strong></a><strong> </strong>on COVID-19 in pregnancy.</p><h3>Expert Speakers:</h3><p><a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/mary-turay-olusile-3b1303b8/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><strong>Miss Mary Turay-Olusile</strong></a><strong>: </strong>Experienced consultant midwife with a demonstrated history of working in healthcare. Advanced clinical skills in Midwifery, management, education and Leadership. Expert knowledge for supporting women and midwives.Initiate and facilitate innovative change to improve services, outcomes and patient experience. </p><p><a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/ajay-sinha-0420045b/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><strong>Mr Ajay Sinha</strong></a><strong>: </strong>Consultant Neonatologist at Barts Health NHS Trust. Ajay K Sinha currently works as a Consultant at the Neonatal Medicine, Barts Health NHS Trust and as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Blizard Institute, Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. Ajay does research in Neonatal Medicine. His current project are Investigating Relationship Between Carotid Blood Flow, Cardiac Output And Blood Pressure In Extremely Preterm Infants, PDA, Neonatal infections, Pharmacokinetics of antibiotics and Neonatal transport.</p><p><a href="https://www.goldperinatal.com/conference/speaker/230/prabha-s-chandra" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><strong>Dr. Prabha S.Chandra</strong></a>, is a Professor of Psychiatry at the National institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience, NIMHANS, Bangalore, India.  She has served as a Temporary Advisor to the WHO and UNAIDS and is the President Elect of the International Association of Women’s Mental Health, a nominated member of the World Psychiatric Association and was an executive member of the Marce International society. Her main areas of interest are Women&#x27;s Mental Health, Perinatal Psychiatry, teaching methods, ethics and palliative care. She has nearly 250 publications and has edited several books. She has started the first dedicated psychiatry service including a Mother-Baby unit in South Asia for mothers with severe mental illness. She is also the PI of a GCRF MRC research grant- the Bangalore Child health and development study which is a cohort of 909 mother-infant dyads. This is a cohort that has detailed mental health and developmental as well as behavioral assessments from pregnancy until 7 years.</p><h2>Time 1.30pm BST | 6pm IST | 9.30am BRT</h2><p>Speakers will give a short presentation about their experiences. This will be followed by a question and answer session Chaired by Professor Shakila Thangaratinam. You will have an opportunity to submit questions as part of the registration process and on the day itself.
