#AccelerateActionJoin the Faculty of Biology Medicine and Health (FBMH) for our flagship International Women's Day event with Dr Claire Malone.Join Dr Claire Malone for our International Women’s Day Celebration where she will explore how disabled individuals and other marginalised groups in, including women, face systemic challenges in academia due to the rigid emphasis on time constraints and productivity metrics. Looking at how this culture of speed often marginalises individuals who don’t fit traditional norms, excluding their valuable contributions.Dr Claire Malone is a leading high-energy physicist, science communicator, and advocate for inclusivity in STEM. With a PhD from Cambridge, Dr Malone's PhD research focused on searching for evidence for Supersymmetry using data from CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. An advocate for diverse voices in science, she delivers keynotes on topics from particle physics to AI’s societal impacts, making complex science accessible to audiences worldwide. Despite the challenges of a physical disability, Claire’s commitment to accessible science led her to innovate a custom work setup, proving the power of ingenuity and passion to overcome adversity. Her TED Talk has inspired over 2 million viewers, and she contributes to publications such as Physics World and Nature Comment, championing the importance of clear, inclusive science communication.The Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health (FBMH) has recently received the Silver Athena Swan Status. The Silver award highlights the Faculty's commitment to creating structures, processes and a culture that enables the University to move towards greater gender equality. A charity dedicated to fighting hygiene poverty.Hygiene poverty refers to the inability to afford essential hygiene and personal care items that many of us consider basic necessities, such as shampoo, laundry detergent, tampons, nappies, or toothpaste.We are collecting new, unused, in-date personal care and household cleaning essentials.
