#AccelerateActionJoin the Faculty of Biology Medicine and Health (FBMH) for our International Women's Day Panel Discussion.Building on the International Women’s Day theme of “Accelerating Action”, this panel discussion will be hosted by Dr Beth Micakovic, Director of Faculty Operations in FBMH and invites Dr Claire Malone, Professor Ruth Bromley, Dr Julia Schoonover and Gading Aurizki to draw on their own experiences navigating stereotypes in their careers and lives.The panel will identify and discuss a number recommendations to identify and overcome stereotypes in academia and beyond. FBMH believes that addressing this for women and other marginalised groups is only the start to truly “Accelerate Action”.The PanelDr Claire Malone (she/her) is a leading high-energy physicist, science communicator, and advocate for inclusivity in STEM. Despite the challenges of a physical disability, Claire’s commitment to accessible science led her to innovate a custom work setup, proving the power of ingenuity and passion to overcome adversity.Dr Julia J Schoonover PhD (she/her) is the Engaged and Inclusive Research Manager in the Manchester Cell Matrix Centre and a sociologist specializing in the study of work. With a focus on research culture, she leads initiatives that promote collegiality, recognition, and open research while ensuring that inclusion and equity are embedded in scientific practice. Drawing on their experience as a researcher, Julia explores how institutional structures shape academic careers, collaboration, and research environments. She works closely with teams across disciplines to develop policies, resources, and training that empower researchers to build sustainable and supportive communities.Prof. Ruth Bromley (she/her) is a GP in Wythenshawe and Professor of Medical Ethics &amp; Health Inequalities at the University of Manchester. She has held various senior leadership roles across the NHS. She has specific expertise in deprivation medicine and homeless healthcare and has recently led the Division of Medical Education’s strategy for LGBTQ+ Affirmation.Gading Aurizki (He/Him) is a PhD student in Nursing at the Mental Health Research Group (MHRG), within the Division of Nursing, Midwifery, and Social Work, School of Health Sciences, at The University of Manchester. His PhD research focuses on help-seeking for psychosis in Indonesia. He earned his nursing degree from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, in Surabaya, Indonesia, where he has been a lecturer since 2022. His research interests primarily focus on community mental health. A charity dedicated to fighting hygiene poverty.Hygiene poverty refers to the inability to afford essential hygiene and personal care items that many of us consider basic necessities, such as shampoo, laundry detergent, tampons, nappies, or toothpaste.We are collecting new, unused, in-date personal care and household cleaning essentials.
