"It was great! Very informative, well presented, engaging, and relevant to our work." Educational Psycologist (April 2020)

Allsorts Youth Project has been delivering training to professionals, and support services to LGBT+ young people for over 20 years.

Now is an opportune time to undertake training to increase knowledge and confidence in the workplace. Allsorts Training & Education Service offers high-quality online LGBT+ training aimed at those supporting, or likely to be supporting, LGBT+ young people.

Understanding and Supporting LGBT+ Young People

This training will explore the issues and challenges that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, or those who are unsure of their sexual orientation or gender identity, children and young people face, how their mental health & wellbeing are impacted by these challenges, and how best to support them.

We will learn ways to make our services safer and more LGBTQ+ inclusive by exploring ways of identifying and challenging homophobia, biphobia and transphobia at home, school, college or work. Although trans/gender identity issues will be covers in this session, the emphasis of this course is more broadly aimed at the whole LGBTQ+ community, due to the fact we run a separate course on gender identity and trans issues.

Benefits and learning outcomes:

  • Explore the challenges faced by LGBTU+ children and young people and the impact of these on their mental health and emotional wellbeing.
  • Examine current LGBTU+ terminology and explore common myths about LGBTU+ people.
  • Examine relevant legislation and how this applies to organisations providing services.
  • Explore how to identify and challenge homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying, insults and language.
  • Examine how to create an LGBT+ inclusive and safer-space environment

This training course has two different options to suit your time, budget, and training needs. The core content will be the same in both sessions, however, the longer session will go into much more depth and leave more time for questions and answers.

1.5 Hours Session

This session is aimed at people who feel they already have a reasonable knowledge and confidence in understanding and supporting LGBT+ young people, but would like to check their knowledge is up to date. This session will have a Q&A with our trainer and an LGBT+ young person.

3 Hours Session:

This session is aimed at people who want to significantly increase their knowledge and confidence in understanding and supporting LGBT+ young people. We will be able to explore issues in much greater depth, and there will be a Q&A with our trainer and an LGBT+ young person.

"It is a key training for anyone working with young people, their families and schools." Youth Advice Worker (June 2020)
