Parent Village Course

LVA is a charity which teaches R.S.E (relationship and sex education) in schools and other youth settings. Our core belief is that we are allloved, valued and able(LVA). Our ambition is toencourage positive self-esteem and healthy relationships.At present we teach in Richmond, Hounslow, Hammersmith & Fulham Borough schools in year groups 5-13. Our sessions are designed to ensure young people receiveconsistent and age appropriate information.We work in partnership with teachers, school pastoral teams and other external providers to ensure national guidelines are met. We also equip parents to guide their children through adolescence.

This engaging 6-week course is tailor-made to equip, empower, and uplift parents as they support their young people through adolescence

Dear Parents &amp; Carers LVA are excited to offer parents the opportunity to take part in ‘The Village’ course.  The creation of this course was inspired by our CEO's personal experience of parenting courses not catering to the unique challenges of raising teenagers and the lack of parent empowerment available to address the issues we at LVA are tackling on the front line every day. The build-up to school transition years comes with great excitement and challenges for our children and us! We have created a transformative and empowering program that will enable parents to confidently work through their own experiences of our 6 core themes and as a result, share their wisdom with their young people in a secure emotionally safe environment. By the end of the course, you will be equipped to engage your young people (and your peers) on all things RSHE (relationship, sex, and health education). The Village goes beyond being a ‘course’. We see it as a community-building platform facilitated by LVA for 6-weeks with the view that each group will form its own village of like-minded people who are safe to continue the exploration of these vital issues long after the program has ended. As parents, we found that when you need ‘the village’ most, it starts to fall away. The community of parents we have during the primary years evolves and changes as our children go off to their various education settings. We aim to support parents to create a new village with new people and maintain support for the blessings and challenges the adolescent years bring!

Session One

In this session, we will delve into the significance of emotional well-being, resilience building, and the development of healthy self-esteem in young people. 

By the conclusion of our time together, participants will have the opportunity to explore the following key areas:  
Personal Insights (Loved): Reflect on your own experiences related to emotional well-being.  
Understanding Perspectives (valued): Gain insight into the experiences of young individuals and how they perceive these topics.  
Practical Strategies (Able): Learn effective methods to support and enhance the resilience and self-esteem of the young people in your life.  

This comprehensive approach aims to provide valuable tools and understanding to foster a supportive environment for emotional growth. 

Week One: Emotional Wellbeing & Self-esteem Building 

Session Two

In this session, we will explore the significance of fostering a healthy body image and address the challenges that young people encounter regarding this important topic.

By the conclusion of the session, participants will have gained insights into the following areas:
Understanding Your Own Relationship with Body Image (Loved): Reflect on and evaluate personal perceptions and feelings about body image.
Recognizing Your Young Person's Perspective (Valued): Examine how your young person views their own body image and the factors influencing their thoughts.
Supporting Healthy Body Image Development (Able): Discover effective strategies to assist your young person in cultivating a positive body image and adopting healthy habits. 


Session Two: Body positivity 

Session Three

This session focuses on healthy relationships and how to cultivate behaviours in young people that empower them in their relationships. We will also discuss abusive and toxic behaviours and how to identify green and red flags.

By the end of this session, you will have explored:

Personal Insights, Loved: Your own relational behaviours, such as establishing boundaries.
Understanding Perspectives, Valued: How your young person engages in their relationships and the types of friendships they are forming.
Practical Strategies, Able: How to support your young person in being intentional about the types of relationships they want in their lives and why this is an important life skill, personally, academically, and professionally.


Session Three: Empowered Relationships

Session Four

This session is dedicated to exploring boundaries and effective communication, emphasising the importance of listening and respect.

By the end of this session, you will:  
Personal Insights, Loved: Clearly understand your own approach to consent and boundaries.  
Understanding Perspectives, Valued: Gain insights into how the young person in your care navigates consent and boundaries, and identify the challenges they may encounter.  
Practical Strategies, Able: Acquire practical tools to empower young people to develop strong communication skills and effective safety strategies for handling difficult situations. 


Session Four: Consent & Coercion

Session Five

This session delves into the crucial relationship young people have with their devices, equipping you with the tools to help them cultivate healthy habits while ensuring their safety.

By the end of this session, you will:  
Personal Insights, Loved: reflected on own approach to online behaviour.  
Understanding Perspectives, Valued: Acquire valuable insights into how the young people you support use their devices, along with the positive and negative effects this may have.  
Practical Strategies, Able: Leave this session with practical and realistic strategies to effectively guide your young person as they navigate their online worlds. 


Session Five: Online Behaviour

Session Six

This session will explore a new approach to sexual and reproductive health as part of overall physiological well-being.

By the end of this session, you will have:  
Understanding, Loved: Reflected on your own sexual education (or lack thereof) and how it may have influenced your parenting.  
Insight, Valued: Considered your young person’s age and stage of development, and learn how to start appropriate conversations about their reproductive health.  
Practical Strategies, Able: Leave this session equipped with practical knowledge to support your young person through puberty and beyond.
