Mary Harper is a journalist, author and broadcaster. She has reported on Africa for the BBC for 30 years and was its Africa Editor for more than a decade. She has a special interest in the Horn of Africa, especially Somalia, where she spends much of her time. Most of her reporting has been from conflict zones.She has set up an award-winning independent media house in Mogadishu, <a href="https://www.bilan.media/" title="https://www.bilan.media/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Bilan</a>, where she works alongside the team of young women journalists.She advises governments, the United Nations and other institutions, and is a board member of several Africa-related organisations.
