Book your timed ticket to visit York Art Gallery

We&#x27;re excited to be reopening York Art Gallery!To open safely we’re limiting visitor numbers and encouraging everyone to book in advance. York Art Gallery’s permanent collection is currently free to visit, but we’re letting visitors decide whether they wish to pay to view two new exhibitions opening on August 20, Views of York &amp; Yorkshire and Your Art Gallery: Paintings Chosen By You. This is part of a new ‘Pay As You Feel’ initiative, where you’re asked to pay an amount that you are comfortable giving. Our suggested amounts are £3, £5 or £7.You can visit the new exhibitions without making a suggested payment, but we hope that you decide to choose one of the payment options. There are still opportunities for you to make a donation during your visit, should you choose a free admission ticket. Contactless donation points are situated throughout the gallery and we would appreciate your support at this very difficult time.Please arrive within your 30 minute time slot. You’re then welcome to stay until closing time. What you can see: You can explore some of our wonderful paintings from the gallery’s permanent collection in the Burton Gallery, the Centre of Ceramic Art, home to Britain&#x27;s largest collection of British Studio Ceramics, and the Aesthetica Art Prize exhibition. Outside, in the Artists Garden, there is large scale sculpture on show in Michael Lyons:Ancient and Modern. The café and shop are also open. Special Exhibitions (From August 20)Views of York &amp; Yorkshire Much-loved paintings and works on paper depicting York and the surrounding countryside go on show in this new exhibition. Artists such as L.S. Lowry, Letitia Marion Hamilton and John Piper present contrasting views of the heart of the city, while newly conserved prints of York Minster dating from the first half of the 19th century will be displayed for the first time, revealing shifting perspectives of the cathedral. Works by artists including Ethel Walker, J.M.W. Turner and Joseph Alfred Terry capture picturesque rural and coastal scenes beyond the city walls.Your Art Gallery: Paintings Chosen By You York Art Gallery presents the paintings you love and have missed the most while we’ve been closed in this new exhibition where you chose the art on display.From Barbara Hepworth to Paul Nash, Richard Jack to Bridget Riley, the exhibition showcases a selection of works from the Gallery’s rich collection of paintings, voted for by the public, alongside further works chosen through Twitter polls. Some of the works also have labels written by the public, offering a personal insight into why the work meant so much to them. Please note: Please book one ticket per person – children under five don’t need a ticket. We would ask that visitors wear a face covering when visiting the gallery. Children must be supervised at all times If you’re more than 10 minutes late for your timeslot, unfortunately we won’t be able to guarantee entry. This is to help us keep everyone safe within the gallery by keeping visitor numbers at the required levels. Please have your printed ticket or QR code on your device ready to show staff. We have made some changes at the gallery to make your visit as safe and as relaxing as possible. This means that some things may be different than you’re used to.
