Join the History of Parliament and the British Library on Tuesday 27 October for an online event to celebrate the publication of &#x27;The Political Lives of Postwar British MPs: an oral history of Parliament&#x27;, a volume based on the Trust’s ground breaking <a href="https://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/research/oral-history" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">oral history project</a>. The Political Lives of Postwar British MPs, authored by the project’s coordinators <a href="https://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/about/staff/dr-emma-peplow" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr Emma Peplow</a> and <a href="https://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/about/staff/dr-priscila-pivatto" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr Priscila Pivatto</a>, delves deeply into a unique archive of nearly 200 interviews with former MPs to immerse the reader in what political life at Westminster was really like between the 1950s and early 2000s.
During the event Emma and Priscila will be in conversation with Dr Rob Perks, Lead Curator of Oral History at the British Library about the book and the ongoing project, which is archived at the British Library Sounds Archive. Their conversation will be followed by an audience Q&amp;A.
Speakers:
Dr Robert Perks has been Lead Curator of Oral History at the British Library since 1988, and Director of National Life Stories since 1996. He is the Secretary of the Oral History Society and an editor of Oral History Journal. His publications include The Oral History Reader (Routledge, third edition 2015). Rob acts as an advisor to the National Lottery Heritage Fund (HLF) and co-ordinates the BL’s relationship with the BBC for ‘The Listening Project’ airing on BBC Radio 4. He sits on the Project Board for <a href="https://www.bl.uk/projects/unlocking-our-sound-heritage" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">‘Unlocking Our Sound Heritage’</a>, an ambitious five-year £18.8m project to digitally preserve 100,000 of the nation’s most rare and vulnerable sound recordings. 
Dr Priscila Pivatto is a Research Associate at the History of Parliament Trust and since 2011 has coordinated to the Oral History Project. She has also conducted interviews, trained interviewers, published and presented papers on oral history, parliamentary proceedings and history of political thought. She has a PhD in Public Law from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. 
Dr Emma Peplow is Head of Development at the History of Parliament Trust, with responsibility for developing the Oral History Project. Emma has worked on the project since joining the Trust in 2012, conducting interviews and speaking and publishing on the project. She has previously coordinated oral history projects for the Marylebone Cricket Club Museum/University of Glamorgan and has a PhD in International History from the London School of Economics.
