Writing on the Wallis a dynamic, Liverpool-based community organisation that coordinates projects and events that celebrate writing in all its forms. We work with a broad and inclusive definition of writing that embraces literature, creative writing, journalism and non-fiction, poetry, songwriting, and storytelling. Writing on the Wall works with local, national and international writers whose work provokes controversy and debate. We work with all of Liverpool’s communities to promote and celebrate individual and collective creativity.

Do you want to be an anti-racist ally? Whether you’re using your voice for the first time, or are looking for ways to keep the momentum and make long lasting change this punchy, pocket-size guide shows you how to be an anti-racist ally. Sophie Williams’ no-holds-barred posts about racism and Black Lives Matter on @officialmillennialblack have taken the online world by storm. Sharp, simple and insightful, they get to the heart of anti-racist principles and show us all how to truly be better allies. Now, in her iconic Instagram style, this pocket-sized primer unpacks complex topics into their most important concepts, and provides a crucial starting block for every anti-racist ally. This discussion will be chaired by Liverpool writer and activist Natalie Denny.Sophie Williams is a leading anti-racism advocate and activist. She is a regular panelist, speaker, consultant and workshop facilitator with a focus on anti-racism, and Diversity and Inclusion. Her writing has appeared in publications such as The Guardian, Bustle and Cosmopolitan. Before beginning writing Sophie had a career in advertising, particularly in social agencies, where she has held the position of COO. In 2019 Sophie left traditional agencies in order to create her own business, working with clients such as Netflix on projects combining her professional advertising experience with active anti-racism work.Sophie’s second book Millennial Black will be published in April 2021.Natalie Denny is a writer, activist and Community Engagement Manager. She is chair of The Period Project Merseyside, a voluntary led initiative providing women and people who have periods people with menstrual items and campaigning to #endperiodpoverty and Merseyside Together Against Racism and Fashion, an umbrella organisation for anti-racist and Anti-fascists groups and individuals. She is also the Co-Founder of The Goddess Projects, an organisation with the mission to empower, inspire and assist black women and women of colour to develop and achieve in their communities. Author of Her Hair: A Crown, her work has been exhibited at Outlook Gallery and is finishing her novel The Girl With The Words.The global Black Lives Matter protests that characterised our summer were truly inspirational. Black communities and anti-racists across the globe are demanding change. Writing on the Wall are proud to present their programme for Black History month featuring some of the most inspirational local, national and international black artists.
