We work to promote the values and principles of Self-directed Support, including choice, control and flexibility, in all aspects of social care support.We do this by working collaboratively across the social care sector: with Scottish Government, Local Authorities, third sector organisations and our members, to improve Self-directed Support implementation in Scotland.As a membership organisation, we bring together those who share our vision and values, to amplify our collective voice around social care support issues.As a Disabled People’s Organisation (an organisation where at least 51% of the Board are either disabled people or/and people who are eligible for social care support), we stand up for the rights of disabled people and people who need support.And we champion local Independent SDS Support Organisations across Scotland, who help thousands of people every year access and manage the support they need to live a good life.Find out more out what we doon our website.

A workshop to explore the use of a range of evidence that could support concerns that people have when  trying to address issues with SDS

This workshop This session will explore how people can use a range of evidence to support the concerns that people have when they are trying to address issues with accessing and making use of SDS. The session will:<ul><li>Highlight how to identify and apply policies, procedures and processes that Health and Social Care Partnership develop, that are relevant to the implementation of SDS</li><li>How to apply relevant guidance, legislation and case law to addressing specific issues</li><li>How to find and make use of relevant complaints reporting and applying this to similar issues that other people might face</li><li>How to share evidence gathered from one person’s experience and apply this to another person’s issues</li><li>Explore practical and effective ways of utilising specific policies to navigate HSCP processes and to ensure that people rights and expectations are upheld</li></ul>Use of Case Studies:The session will make use of real case studies that Civil Rights First have produced from the support they have provided to people accessing their service. These will highlight strategies that can be employed to provide leverage to enable better outcomes to be achieved for people.The session will also consider strategies around the use of appeals, senior management reviews, mediation, external review and formal complaints.Sharing examples and experience:People signing up to the workshop are encouraged to bring examples of issues they have supported people with and to explore how they could be addressed by reference to relevant policies and procedures.Attendees will also be provided with opportunities to interact with other participants, share ideas and learn from each other’s people’s wider experience.Ticket allocation and availability:As Civil Rights First sessions are always popular, tickets will initially be offered to members first at a discounted rate of £20. Any unsold tickets may be made available to others at a non member rate of £40.
