Herbs are an excellent choice for many first aid and acute medicine situations, whether minor or a little more serious.In the first session (4th March 2025), we will look at putting together a herbal first aid kit to deal with a range of things, such asAllergic reactions; cuts, bleeding, splinters, and infected wounds; blisters; bruising; burns and scalds; chills; loss of body heat; cramps and spasms; concussion aftercare; dental abscesses; eye irritation; fever; headaches; heat exhaustion; heat rash and sunburn; insect bites and stings; ligament damage; sprains and strains; nosebleeds; nausea; and digestive upsets, including diarrhoea; panic attacks; and shock.We will examine what herbs and essential oils to include and what equipment and materials are needed. This information can be useful in a clinic situation and can also be useful for teaching our patients and communities.In the second session (29th April 2025), we will look primarily at wound management: How to apply compresses and poultices, dress wounds, and ensure proper healing. In addition to cuts, grazes, puncture wounds and the like, we will discuss the treatment of leg ulcers. This will include a practical demonstration and suggestions for herbal blends suited to various scenarios.Recordings of both sessions will be made available once it is ready to all registrants.About NikkiNikki Darrell has been working with plants, their medicine and healing, for over four decades as her fascination with the green beings started in early childhood and her primary teachers are the plants she works with.She has worked as a research scientist in the field of plant science; a practitioner of herbal medicine, aromatherapy, aromatic medicine, reflexology, massage, and body work; a gardener; an educator at all levels from introductory to 3rd level, campaigner, and author of five books and many articles.She holds a Masters in Social and Co-operative Enterprise which she embarked on due to her love of sustainable community development.
